Western Civilization & Christianity?

NerdDad sent me the quote today and I found it very interesting.

Last Sunday, more Roman Catholics attended church in the Philippines than in any single country in Europe. More Anglicans attended church in each of Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania, and Uganda than did Anglicans in Britain and Canada and Episcopalians in the U.S. combined. And in Europe the church with the largest attendance last Sunday was Kiev, and it is a church of Nigerian Pentecostals.

That was found in a very interesting article over at First Thoughts. I know people who go to the Philippines every year for a mission work. I just think that maybe it is the Philippines’ and Africa’s turn to come convert us;).

Halloween Vent

Halloween is coming and the idea of it is overwhelming me!!!

I am not a big fan of just buying costumes but everything else takes so much time!!! We could do a Star Wars theme because we have a few outfits in the dress up bin but there are a lot of other options.

A couple of months ago the kids were talking about doing a Marvel theme set. Specifically there was a lot of talk about Nerdster being Electro with some pipe cleaners coming off for electricity.

Then there is also the option of doing the Roman/Greek thing that we are studying in history. The boys could make armor and the girls could make some great clothing.

Or we could do a solar system type thing. All in black and then building out different planets.

Ugh! Not only are there a lot of choices but many of those choices are a lot of work too!

What are you doing for Halloween? Do you even care to know yet;)? It is over a month away! But if you are making something, that isn’t enough time!!!

Geeky Links 9/17

Ars Technica has a great piece talking about Intel’s $300 Million Ultrabook fund that is designed to take on Apple!

Discovery has a piece on how to boost your wifi signal with only a beer can. I think we will use a Diet Pepsi Wild Cherry can instead but I think it will be ok;).

Blastr has a piece on 4 Awesome items that stars of the original series took home.

The BBC has a piece on the new World’s Record holder for collecting Daleks. Hull isn’t a fan of the Doctor but is fascinated by Daleks. This doesn’t bode well for humans;).

Mango Greek Yogurt

Everything dumped into a bowl!

This “recipe” is for Mango Yogurt but it would work in essence for any fruit. With Greek yogurt being so high in protein I wanted to find a way to incorporate it into my kids’ lunch time. But I didn’t just want the premade flavors. So I started playing with some flavors and sweeteners to cut some of the tartness.
This is 1 of the recipes when I prep the fruit and let one of the kids do the rest! To make 4 side dish servings (went with peanut butter & jelly;) this is what I used:

Then just dump it all into a bowl and stir! Then I just divide it into 4 cute custard cups with a little sprinkle of sugar!

Math & Fashion?

Sounds like a match made in Nerd Girl heaven right? That is the first thing I thought about when I heard about Sonsi’s Fashion Genius feature!

Let me straight out say, I have issues with clothes! I am trying to be more deliberate about style and fit but ugh, I must have a weird body! I have so many fit issues! And they aren’t even issues that are just about me being fat, even plus size clothes don’t fit quite right. But apparently I am not alone:

The Issues With Fit
Our survey results reveal that the majority of plus size women have major
issues finding pants and jeans that fit, with 55% reporting they want to
conceal their waists and 46% wanting to conceal their hips. Additional data
shows that, when it comes to pants and jeans, plus size women experience a
wide range of fit issues:
• 65% report problems with jeans gaping at their waist
• 63% avoid narrow leg pants and leggings
• 52% experience fit issues in the waist
• 30% experience fit issues in the hips

And that is just about pants!!! There are similar statistics about all the other types of clothes too! But that is where Fashion Genius kicks in. They have a 3 minute quiz that helps us to find the perfect clothes! And this isn’t just based on whim but it is based on an algorithm developed with over 70 million data points of information (yes, I am getting my geek on;).

So what does the Fashion Genius look like in style for me?

My profile for tops

I have to say, I think that is pretty dead on to how I want to dress! This is just awesome!!! I never feel very confident in trying anything new and cute so this is just the tool I need!

So go try it out and let me know how it works for you. Did it pin down your style? Did it show you some super cute clothes? Let me know!!!

Math and Fashion, for the win!

(This post was made possible by Mom Spark Media. I was compensated for my time investment and work on this campaign.)
