Recently Fresno was graced with the fabulous Clinton Kelly, who came to Macys with Estee Lauder as a sponsor. He was giving fashion advice and talking on adapting fashion trends to different people. I love the fact that we are now getting events like this in Fresno!

I am a huge Clinton Kelly fan! I was a viewer of What Not to Wear before he joined the show and loved it when he became Stacy London’s cohost. I have even watched a fair amount of The Chew (stopped because it isn’t so kid friendly and on during lunch;). So it was very interesting to hear Kelly talking about his time on What Not to Wear. I was left with the impression that he didn’t really enjoy his time all that much. He didn’t seem to be miserable about it but that “it was his job” so he was happy when it was over. He talked about how with The Chew he preps but pretty much an hour of work makes an hour of tv. But on What Not to Wear they would shoot at least an hour for every minute used and that they really did spend a whole week with the subjects so they were happy to see them go at the end of the week.

Clinton Kelly was just as entertaining in this format as he is on tv! He was funny and honest all at the same time;). He talked about how hard it is to get here by plane (oh yeah). Of course the heat was mentioned and it wasn’t even all that hot;). But he hit on a fashion challenge that I have saw here in Fresno for a long time. It is the casualness of Fresno! He was talking about everyone’s shock at him wearing a suit when he was at the airport. I struggle with that here too. If I am actually trying to dress cute I feel so over dressed. And people will comment about how fancy you are dressed, it makes me feel odd…

Clinton edit 5

There was a fashion show covering some of today’s hot trends and a collection of cute dresses. Then Kelly walked through the audience answering questions! I walked away 4 great fashion tips!

1) Which trends should we follow? If you caught it the first time around it may not be for you. The example he gave is older women and the bohemian look. It looks like you just kept all your original 70’s clothes and never changed.

2) Who is that bold lemon color for? It isn’t for people who have a lot of pink in their skin. If that is you, look into the more mustard types of yellow.

3) Cross body bags, giant purses, little purses, what is a girl to choose? When it comes to purse size Kelly says to get a bag that holds all your stuff! But giant bags with skinny, petite girls look like their bag is going to eat them. And if you are large chested avoid the cross body bags as it draws even more attention and not in a good way!

4) What do I do to camouflage the back end in skinny jeans? Kelly says that skinny jeans are for all women of all sizes. But he says if you are self conscious of your butt you should practice divide and conquer. That is where you jacket or shirt falls just to the largest part of your butt and takes away from its size. But he emphasized, if you has a bog or small butt and are comfortable with it you should flaunt it.

I absolutely enjoyed myself at the Clinton Kelly event! If it comes your way you definitely should go! Now if only I could have a few hours of him shopping for me on my budget;).

Disclosure: I was compensated for attending and covering this event. But all thoughts and opinions are mine and mine alone!

Scout Clearance

Ok, I have said before how much I was in love with my large Scout bag, right? I love the polywoven fabric that is water resistant. I love the fact that I can fit everyone’s towels, sunscreen, bottles of water and toys in it.

Right now Scout is having a clearance sale for some of their awesome bags. But you don’t need a bag big enough for a small child;)? Have no fear! They have a ton of sizes and varieties on sale!!! I mean coolers, small bags, laundry bags, bags on wheels, etc!

But this sale is only until Thursday so go, shop!!!

Big Girl Shoes for My Little Girls

My girls are flower girls this weekend and so I had to go out and get them shoes. They have adorable ivory dresses with wreaths. Rather than get a cream shoe that they would never wear again I decided to get a metallic sandal they could wear all summer. But I wanted them to match and that is a challenge because the baby is still in “toddler shoes” where as NerdPie is a
“youth” (yes, incorrigible youths;). So…

I originally was going for silver but we all fell in love with these. They have about 1/2 inch wedge on them. The girls are both excited that they have a shoe with a heel, mind you it is only 1/2 inch;). NerdPie said, “I like these! They are high!” But worry not, the 4 year old will not fall from her “stilts”. I caught NerdPud walking around in my 3 1/2 inch wedges (successfully) before she turned 2.

Now they just need pedicures!

Cool Spring Trends?

This week’s question over at BlogHer’s Life Well Lived series is all about 10 hot spring trends.

Ok, I don’t actually dress trendy but I do tend to know about them;). Part of the reason I don’t dress in the trends is because I am a big giant chicken. I am always self conscious;). But I am trying to be more open about trying new things in fashion!

So looking at the upcoming trends I think some with be a hit and some will be a miss for me. One of the hits for me are the statement sunglasses. I just got a couple of pairs last week so we will see how they are received;). I love the pastels and the whole lady like look. I think they are super cute. I love that whole pulled together lady like look.

I am totally on the fence about neon! I don’t think I can handle that much color. I do have bright jewel colored shirts and sweaters in blues, pinks and purples. That may be all I can handle;). I am also on the fence about the whole tangerine thing. I am really pinky and I am little afraid of that orange. I like peach and melon though!

Then there are some misses for me. I love the peplum idea. I mean I flip for a great pencil skirt and the whole retro look but being so plus size. I understand that it should hide a little bulge but I think I have passed the point of it being helpful;). I can also say the drop waist thing appears to be a fail. I got a cute purple dress that was a drop waist and it is now waiting to be returned. Party fail!

So how about you? What spring trends are you embracing or running from? Leave a comment here and then pop over to BlogHer and let them know too! And Make sure you enter the sweepstakes too!

Oy! My Aching Feet!

So you should all be proud of me! I finally broke down and got a nice (read expensive) pair of flats for Blissdom. I found these great Born flats at Norstrom Rack for $50. Everyone warned me that there was a ton of walking so I came prepared. But I didn’t break in my shoes before I came and I think that was a mistake!!!

Within just a couple of hours I had a bunch of blisters. I now have 4 bandaids on and decided to wear my funky socks with my flats even though everyone could see them. The big problem? I only brought 1 pair of socks;). So I am off to wash them out and hope they dry by the morning;).

Learn from my mistakes and bring more than 4 bandaids, more than one pair of socks (just in case) and break in your shoes before you go to a conference!!! Other than that, I am having a fun time at Blissdom! I hope to learn a bunch tomorrow;).
