Food Links 9/24

Happy Saturday everyone! There is always food news beyond recipes so here are just a few links to things going on in the food world! Prohibition was not only a foodie issue but an issue that changed America. It refined the black market and almost created the Mob. I am interested to see Ken Burns take on it. Apparently it is debuting today on the iPad and the beginning of October on PBS. I am off to download the PBS app and get it! Tuscaloosa News has an interesting piece about how the Alabama immigration law is impacting growers. The growers are appealing to lawmakers to do something to help.

Tuscaloosa News has an interesting piece about how Alabama immigration law is effecting growers. And we all know that what effects growers also effects food prices! The growers are pleading with law makers to help!

Meredith Fineman has the (UN)Milk Guide. She has become lactose intolerant and just wants a little something for her coffee. It is a good piece looking at actual milk substitutes.

That is just a couple of interesting non-recipe pieces out in the food world!

Geeky Links 9/24

I am so stoked! There were all kinds of Fables comic book news that was announced at Comic-Con! Comic Alliance has the lowdown.

A Nobel winning physicist is standing against global warming. To the point that he quit APS due to their stand on it!

Gamma Squad has some awesome lunch bag art that a dad created!! Can someone make me a lunch in 1 of those bags;)?

Blastr has a piece on 5 Doctor Who characters who should have their own series. I think they are dead in! But I think the 2 that would be the best bet is Dr. River Song (especially after what recently learned about her) and Martha Jones!

Over on Geek Dad there is a sweet piece on a Dad who helped his kids go Ewok hunting

Western Civilization & Christianity?

NerdDad sent me the quote today and I found it very interesting.

Last Sunday, more Roman Catholics attended church in the Philippines than in any single country in Europe. More Anglicans attended church in each of Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania, and Uganda than did Anglicans in Britain and Canada and Episcopalians in the U.S. combined. And in Europe the church with the largest attendance last Sunday was Kiev, and it is a church of Nigerian Pentecostals.

That was found in a very interesting article over at First Thoughts. I know people who go to the Philippines every year for a mission work. I just think that maybe it is the Philippines’ and Africa’s turn to come convert us;).
