How to Start Your Minecraft Horse Farm

2016-04-01_18.07.43

This post is here to teach you all about the horse. I like horses in real life but I have only ridden on Minecraft. I am also going to talk about items that are helpful to be used with a horse. But first I will let you know about the animal of the hour himself the horse.

I really like horses but sometimes they can be really hard to find. When you first meet a horse it is wild and it won’t really let you do anything with it. To tame it you need to get on its back by left clicking on it with an empty hand. It will shake you of a couple times and once you see hearts come out then you will have tamed it. Once you have tamed it then you will be able to see its inventory by pressing E on its back then you can put a Saddle

  • Saddles are one thing that you need if you want to be ride any animal. You can’t craft them which can be a big setback but the are a kind of common item in spawned chests. They saddle is the only way to be able to steer a horse on its back.  And you can only put it on once it is tamed.

On its back also you can put on a set of horse armor.

  • Horse Armor is only one piece but it covers all of the horse. There are 3 kinds iron, gold, and diamond. You can’t craft horse armor either and is found sometimes in spawned chests.

Your horse can die but you can feed it food to regain its health.

  • Sugar heals 1/2 of a Heart
  • Wheat heals 1 heart
  • Apple heals 1 and a 1/2 hearts
  • Golden Carrot heals 2 hearts and breeds them
  • Golden Apple or Enchanted Apple heals 5 hearts
  • Haybale this is one that really is cool it is wheat on every square of the crafting table. They are only used for horses and I haven’t used them before but they are cool.

I hope that you have learned everything that you want to about horses. If not let me know in the comments.

The Ender Beasts Of Minecraft

Ender Beasts

Today I am going to talk about a couple of monsters that haven’t really been highlighted much before and a little bit on one that is very important. I am talking about The Endermen, Endermites and The Ender Dragon. These all have a big power range but no one notices them much except for the big GrandDaddy to them all The Ender Dragon. First I am going to talk about the mysterious Endermen.

Ender Man

These are helpful because they can give you ender pearls. Enderpearls will teleport you to where you throw them. If you combined blaze powder and an ender pearl you will get an eye of ender that is what you need to unlock the End. Endermen can teleport within a 32 block area as long as they can see it and it is 3 or more blocks high. So you can just make a cage that is 3 blocks high but once you get the endermen in it you make the exit only 2 blocks high. Endermen also eat blocks out of the landscape which locks really weird.

Endermite

These are strange little creatures that I haven’t really met before but they are very interesting. They only spawn once in awhile where something has teleported. They are like little cubes that bounce around. If they touch you they hurt you and they are pretty fast. They also drop ender pearls.

The Ender Dragon

This is often called the big boss of minecraft. I have one piece of advice. Don’t go till you have everything and the kitchen sink to throw at it. You can never have too much stuff to try to kill it. If you want to learn more click here

I hope that you got to learn more about the Ender beasts. Please let me know if there is any thing about minecraft you want to learn.

Minecraft Monster Master

2016-03-21_16.11.47

This post is going to tell you all the base monsters in Minecraft in the overworld but not go into a ton of details. Most monsters are only in the night time and all only spawn in the night. First I am going to talk about the originals but there are a lot of variations that have been made like chicken jockeys.

Witch: These are kind of new and are really fun but watch out because they will throw potions at you if you get near and they can survive in the daylight.

Zombie: These are one of the main monsters of Minecraft because it is so iconic. They can’t live in the sun but there are lots of them at night

Spider: These are passive in day unless you are close to them put can climb up walls but not under walls.

Creeper: This is often seen as the mascot of Minecraft and is easy to avoid if you know what you are doing. They are really slow but can survive in the daylight and will blow up if they are to close to you for more than a few seconds.

Guardian: I don’t have any experience with these myself but they guard the ocean monument and can only survive under water.

Silverfish: These are neat little creatures that pop out of blocks in strongholds and they can lay eggs in cobblestone blocks.

Skeleton: These are one of the most common monsters that are out at night. They burn up in the sun and have long range weapons. (special hint get a skeleton to shoot a creeper then make sure the creeper dies and doesn’t blow up you will get a special item)

Slime: These are often found in swamps and split the first time you hit them into 4 then those split into 2 each. If they touch you they will hurt you and can be in the sun.

I hope that this gives you a better understanding of the monsters of the overworld. Please put in the comments anything you want to learn about minecraft.

My new everything! Yoga 900 by Lenovo

I just realized this week that I never posted my video about my new Lenovo Yoga 900! Lenovo sent me this computer as a bit of an early Christmas present and it rocks. This is a mighty little machine! It is a convertible laptop like the previous Yogas. I think at this point a convertible laptop is a necessity.

The tablet is great as a standard tablet. But the Yoga 900 in tablet mode is even better because of the WriteIt app. I can write directly into standard computer programs. It is really awesome for jotting down note, writing pieces, and tweeting on the go.

Not only is the Yoga 900 gorgeous and travels well but it is my everything machine. I am even typing this on my 2nd monitor I have hooked up to it. It is a workhorse with lots of RAM and a great SSD. I have been using it now for a few months and highly recommend it to all.

Here is where you all can grab 1 for yourself: http://www.geek4therealgirl.com/lenovo

3 Ways to Help Your Kids to Move on From Their Toys!

unnamed (6)

Toys, toys, toys. They just keep coming! But the kids do eventually outgrow some of them. But if your kids are like mine, when parents suggest getting rid of the more childish ones kids say no! If you aren’t careful you will have a house full of teenagers and a full toy kitchen set too;). So I was asked by a friend, “How can we help our kids to move on from the toys they are really to old for?” I have 3 ways!

(This is a piece sponsored by Pley but all from me;)

1) Leverage your space to make your argument. Don’t allow them to add their newer toys to reachable shelves that are already full of toys! Place the new toys in an inconvenient location (top shelf, another room, even somewhere they need your help to get). When the kids need your help or complain about the location, remind them if they get rid of their excess, old toys there will be plenty of room!

2) Tug on their hearts. The situation where you have some toys that your kids have outgrown but just don’t want to let go yet. But then you have a friend or family member with a younger child who would just adore that toy. You mention that so and so would love that toy. It is amazing to watch your kids just automatically volunteer it! Or at least grudgingly give their permission for the transfer;). This is a great way to not only get rid of old toys but to also grow your children’s hearts.

My children have been on both sides of this situation. We have received great sets of toys that we would have never been able to afford! Like entire Little Tikes outdoor play structures. But when it was time for my kids to give them up… well they didn’t want to. But a friend of mine hosts a bible study for parents of preschoolers and didn’t have any outdoor toys. As soon as I asked if they would give them to this friend so this group of little kids could use them, all my children’s doubt and desire to hold on to them went away. My kids even volunteered to help take the structures apart so they could get loaded into a truck.

3) If worse comes to worse, appeal to their greed. What can I say, economy and money are motivators. If they sell their toys, they will have money to spend! You can have a yard sale, use Craig’s List, or post them on one of the many Facebook groups that there are for community sales! Just remember that they toys don’t just belong to the first kid or the last kid who has played with them. You need to decide who gets a share of the money before things are sold. Otherwise you could have a lot of bickering and tension once everything is sold.

pley-card-logo-v3Now, one way you avoid this whole constant struggle of course is to do a service like Pley. When your kids see something better on the list, they just have to send back the last set they got. Easy peasy! You know I had to at least mention them;).

(Disclosure: Pley did sponsor this post but all thoughts and opinions are mine alone;)
