The Inside of Minecraft for Newbies

Minecraft_Monday

This post is to fill in anyone who hasn’t used Minecraft before and wants to know more about it. I realized that a lot of people don’t know anything about Minecraft so I decided to fill you guys in.

Minecraft is a world that is basically made out of squares which makes everything fit together nicely. Minecraft is supposed to be a little bit like real life meaning that there are night and day cycles. There are a couple of things that you will need to survive. You will need food unless you are on peaceful but that is an other story for a different post. And you will need a shelter with light.

The main way that Minecraft is not like real life is that there are monsters that spawn in the night that you will have to fight. If you stay in a well light inclosed space you should be okay at night. But be aware that in the day some monsters stay and others are in the shade so you could still be in danger.

One of the other things that make it not like real life is that when you die you aren’t really dead. You will respawn without your stuff either where you started out or your bed.

Minecraft is a game made by Mojang.  You do have to pay about $30 for a minecraft profile but then you can play on any PC as long as you remember your password and E-mail address. The reason I say that is Nerdpud is always forgetting her minecraft password and gets it reset every once and awhile.

When you start Minecraft you can either have the steve skin or the alex skin which are both fine but sometimes you want to have a bit more style. If that’s you check out this post that will teach you all the steps that are needed to change your skin into something dazzling.

I hope this post will help you know more about Minecraft. Let me know any questions.

Minecraft Underground Structures

Minecraft_Structures

These are the neatest things because they spawn in the world you don’t have to build them like villages. And I am to tell you all about the underground mine shafts and dungeons. The main one that I have talked about is the village if you want to learn more about it click here

The mine shaft is my favorite structure other than the village and the one I am most familiar with of the underground structures. This is a very dangerous place because the monsters love it.  There are cobwebs everywhere that will make you slow if you are touching them and they can be knocked down with a sword and give you tons of string. One time I went into a mineshaft and I brought back two 64s of string. There are pieces of  rail on the floor every where so if you raid a mine shaft you might be able to make a rollercoaster. And there are chests that are scattered around that have various valuable and or rare items

The first underground structure that I ever saw was  is the dungeon. That is the best place to find mossy cobblestone that is my favorite block for  gardens and trimmings and decorations. There is always monster spawner in the middle of the room that can get pretty annoying. Once you take care of the spawner there are 2 chests that have the same kind of stuff as the mine shaft. One way to find them is to go into the desert and find a square 20 by 20 that is sunk deeper than everywhere else.

I hope that you  are ready to brave the terrifying underground mineshafts. Or to go looking in the desert for the fabulous dungeon. Let me know your scary escapes in the underground world of minecraft.

Minecraft Biomes: The Ocean

Minecraft Ocean

This is the neatest biome because there is not very much biome to it. There is a lot of water, over 3 thousand blocks across. There are a lot of little islands that are scattered around the ocean. In this post I will talk about all bodies of water like lakes and rivers as well as the ocean.

Almost any common material is found in the ocean floor and in the floors of other bodies of water. There is sand and dirt but there is also a new block. Clay is a very helpful block. When you get it out of the ground (the best tool is a shovel) you will get 4 little balls in your inventory per block. You can make bricks out of baking clay in a furnace. You can make a clay pot like a helmet (iron in the bottom middle and the middle left and right) with bricks instead of iron that you can put flowers in. Or you can put your clay in a 4 by 4 square and it will be a block that you can dye or bake to get hardened clay that is fireproof.

There isn’t very many mobs that spawn in the in the ocean but the coolest one is the squid. The squid is not mean and it can’t hurt. They will spawn in an space of water that is big enough for them so like 5 by 5 and 3 deep. If you kill a squid you will get like 3 ink sacks that are black dye and you can make a book and quill if you put a book a chicken feather and an ink sack on the crafting table. Most mobs can swim but water is deadly to any mob from the nether.

Make sure to let me know what you write in your book and quill. I wrote a short story in one once.

My Kids’ Favorite Toy Organization Tool

WP_20160127_13_49_14_Pro
(This is a sponsored post by Pley, the awesome toy set subscription service. Netflix for blocks (and maybe Polly Pockets soon too).)

I know, it sounds weird to be talking about the kids’ favorite organization tools but I am a practical girl. I can do all the organizing, labeling, and containering I want but if the kids won’t use it, it is a waste. So I wanted to find out their favorite so I could deploy it as much as possible! I mean, don’t you want your kids tending and organizing all their own toys (if we dare to dream)? I see all these great systems on Pinterest that are supposed to be easy to use. But if I am the only one actually using them, I consider it a fail no matter how cheap or how pretty it looks.

So I sat down with my kids and polled them about what was there favorite and why.

WP_20160127_13_50_25_ProThe hands down winner was the collapsible drawer/bin. And they had a variety of reasons!

1) It is 1 bin to take out and put away. So much easier than carrying out a bunch of little bits.
2) They can hold quite a bit. Like a whole set up of Legos for a project. If you are using smaller containers to organize things (like a pencil box for mini figures and bags of singles), they will hold all those little containers too!
3) They come in different colors so you can use a specific color for specific things.
4) They fold up so you can always have 1 or 2 empty, out of the way, and ready to go for any on the fly project.
5) They look nicer than laying out a bunch of bits on the shelf. So they don’t have to dust all the bits and I will let them sit on the shelf instead of finding a spot in the closet.
6) You don’t have to take everything apart in order to put things away and clean up!

I love them for all those reasons and the fact that they are so affordable! I have some from the Dollar Spot at Target and some from Michaels.

There are also very great for Pley subscribers! Keep an empty drawer or 2 set aside for those kits! Then when they come in you can just set all the pieces in 1 drawer and they will be contained! Playable yet very easy to keep track of! Then whe you are ready to send back your set to get another, you know where all the bits are!

Do you use the collapsible fabric drawers? What do your kids like to use to organize all their toys? Especially those toys with lots of pieces? Let me know in the comments!

Minecraft Biomes: The Jungle

2016-01-22_15.34.11

I really like the jungle because it has a lot of things in a small area. The place is covered with leaves and vines because there are lots of little trees on the floor and there are lots of 4 trunked trees that make almost a roof over the forest. So those combined make it so you can’t move without touching foliage. There is only one mob that is only found in the jungle. Click here to get to know them

My favorite thing that is unique to the jungle is the Cacao seeds. You can make cookies that are better for you to eat per materials that you have to spended in making them. If you make cookies out of 2 wheat and 1 Cacao seed you will get 8 cookies. You need to put a wheat in the middle left an right and a Cacao seed in the middle middle. I often just carry a stack of cookies and they can keep you full for weeks.

The main wood in the jungle is you guessed it jungle wood though there are a lot of oak trees one the floor of the forest. The jungle wood is so tall that if you go up the vines then fall off then you will probably die. I like making tree houses at the top of the forests and getting to them with vines.

There are only a couple of different food sources in the jungle. There are cookies because Cacao pods are everywhere and there are a lot of grass sprouts in between the trees. And there are a bunch of apples but those aren’t a very reliable food source because it takes you a day to get a day’s worth of food so you won’t be able to do much else.

I think that the jungle is one of the best biomes to start out in. Because there is lots of wood and resources and sometimes they have a river running through them which is always cool. What is the biome you want to learn more about?
