Crio Bru Review: Brewing Cocoa

Crio Bru

This last week I was so excited to receive some samples of Crio Bru to review. This is a cocoa beverage that is brewed in a coffee maker just like coffee grounds. This intrigued me to no end!

Here is the gist. They roast and grind the cocoa beans then you brew it in your coffee maker (be it drip or press).  The beverage is 10 calories, unsweetened and gluten free. You can even reuse the grounds! You just had half again of new to go with it.

Ok, so that is all the official stuff. Lets get  into my actual experience.

First off, there are brewing instruction on the back of the package that are similar to coffee. It calls for 2 tablespoons per cup. But I recommend brewing it however you brew your coffee! I like weak coffee and I found it a little strong and bitter for my taste. I then brewed it according to my wimpy coffee standards and it was perfect!

This should be sold for fragrance in addition to taste! My kids were so disappointed that the smell was not a sign of baking. And it is quite tasty too! Each variety really does have its own taste! The Cavalla was sweeter to me with hints of coconut. The Maya reminded me of those really high quality truffles with hints of spice with the sweetness of vanilla to balance it.

This is a really delicious way to meet your chocolate cravings and to relax. I highly recommend it. I am even contemplating switching out my coffee (now that is dedication;).

Have you tried Crio Bru? I am curious to what you all thought! Let me know in the comments! Anything you are curious about that I didn’t mention? Leave your questions in the comments and I will let you know!

*Update: You can get this online or at a few shops in the Midwest.

Finding Free Ebooks

finding freee books

Ebooks are awesome! They are great ways to read on the go and to keep a lot of books at your fingertips. While they will never replace paper books, ebooks are becoming more and more common place. But did you know that there are many, many ebooks that are out there for free? Some are classics but some are quite new and even best sellers! You can find them too but it is all about where to look!

My favorite hub is BooksShouldBeFree.com! They don’t provide any ebooks themselves but link you straight to the sources for many! They also have audio books in addition! They show links to a lot of the big sites but not everything.

Another hub for many is your local library’s website! Here in Fresno the Fresno County Library’s page has tons of ebook resources! Our library (and many others) have free magazines through Zinio that download and are yours. There are also lending agreements with OverDrive, 3M Cloud Library, Bookflix and OneClickdigital. Many of the books provided through these services are a lot of bestsellers and popular books.

I also like going straight to Amazon! They have free collections and often have many sales. I am currently reading  Pinterest Savvy: How I Got 1 Million+ Followers (Strategies, Plans, and Tips to Grow Your Business with Pinterest) that I picked up when it was free!

We are also very fond of the Gutenberg Project! They really are the originator of the free ebook. It was the original place for all the copyright free material. BooksShouldBeFree links to them a lot!

So in this day of ebooks, do you currently read them? What is your favorite kind of book to read on a device?

Gluten Free Flour Blend

glutenfreeflourblendOk, originally this was posted on some Utah based Gluten Free site but I can’t find it anywhere. I have just seen different versions of this blend. This is the one I have used and liked so far. A big reason I love so much is that you can pick up almost all the materials (not brown rice flour) at the Asian market for cheap, relative to other gluten free things;).

3 cups white rice flour
3 cups brown rice flour
2 cups potato starch (not flour)
1 cup tapioca starch

I get the white rice flour for 99 cents a pound, potato starch, and tapioca starch for $1.49 a pound (I think) all at the R&N Market at Cedar and Herndon but any local Asian market where you are at should the best prices. Then I got the Bob’s Red Mill Rice Flour Brown, 48-Ounce (Pack of 4) for $21.68 (which is a lot of brown rice flour).

I mixed it together and leave it in a bin!

My Job Chart

I am a big believer on teaching kids the importance of chores and how to be responsible. Of course the official reason is that it is important to help our children become self supporting, responsible adults. Lets be honest, the more motivating reason is that I am not paid nearly enough to be their servant. I have yet to find anyone who can afford what it would cost to make me be their servant;).

We don’t do allowances in this house. We have always said there is a certain amount of work that is just part of being the family. That said, I always have big jobs, projects and extra ways for them to earn money or privileges.  So to that end here is a free tool that might help!

My Job Chart is more than just a chore list. I mean, I could just make a chore list on a scratch piece of paper. I am looking for a little more than that in a tool;). My Job Chart is a website and apps that are designed for both parents and kids to use. Parents can enter jobs and rewards. The kids can then log in and enter the jobs they have completed and redeem points for rewards!

The jobs are entered by parents and we decide how many points each job is worth so it isn’t just a check off system for the kids. We can teach them that harder (or even optional) jobs are worth more points. And I like how the rewards system is structured. You can enter any for of reward you want! It can be a product from Amazon that the kids can redeem points directly for (when you give permission) and it can be shipped to you. That is nice because then you don’t have to remember to go buy the prize;). But I like the other reward options too! You can put in any kind of prize like a playdate or video game time! There is even a charity section so your kids can redeem for those! It is a great way to teach how to give of your time for a charity because their time will be worth a donation!

Go sign up for My Job Chart! It is free so give it a whirl! And I do ask that you use one of my links because that will help support this blog!!!

Preschool and Kindergarten Valentine’s Day Crafts

prekkvalentine's

Kids like crafts! And I like kids being busy with crafts;). Valentine’s Day is the perfect time for little kid crafts because they can help create some seasonal decor and use their crafts as gifts!

The first one is a super simple heart wreath!
To prep for the kids you can take cheap paper plates and cut the center out of them. I picked up a great heart punch and had my son punch a bunch of hearts out of 2 sheets of cardstock but I could have used old magazines too! Then just place glue all over the paper plate ring and let them go crazy arranging them!!! If you want to get fancy they can draw faces on the hearts first;).

The second one is a super cute butterfly!
Take toilet paper roll and cover it in a rectangle of colored paper by placing glue on both ends of one side and then roll the paper roll in it. Then glue 2 hearts on the back for wings. You can put a hole punch in the top of the toilet paper roll in between the wings. Then have them place a colored pipe cleaner in the hole for antennae! Then just add googly eyes and draw a face! You could write to & froms on the wings and make sweet little gifts!

These aren’t complicated but they are fun!
