Scotch Brite Giveaway

I was so stoked to get a box from Scotch-Brite recently in the mail full of their Bathroom Solution Products! The kids and I all looked through it with baited breath! Is it sad that we were so excited about cleaning products;)? With 4 kids there is always so much cleaning to be done. And nothing makes cleaning better than having the right tools!

I have learned to delegate some of my cleaning but as you can see. Sometimes it doesn’t always turn out the way I want. My son had the chore of wiping down the bathroom sink with a cleaning wipe. He decided to go above and beyond by wiping down the mirror. He didn’t wonder why I have never asked him to do that;). As you can see, there were quite a few streaks.

So I grabbed my new Streak Free Mirror Cloth and a little window cleaner to rid myself of all those streaks in just a moment. I even noticed that I didn’t have to as much window cleaner as usual but the results were better!

So how would you like a box like mine filled with awesome Scotch-Brite Bathroom Solutions?

Will the 4th Ever Be the Same?

Wow, my church has a special, patriotic service today and it was one of the worst of my life. Wow!

Don’t get me wrong. I am a patriotic girl. My stepfather raised me on John Philip Sousa’s marches and the magic of the military. And of course, what nerd doesn’t love fireworks? So what could have possibly had me in the bathroom sobbing 25 minutes into church service with the desire to never celebrate the 4th of July again?

Well, it started when there was an honor guard that came to present the colors. All I could see was their shoes. See the last time I saw an honor guard was at my father’s funeral this past December. I spent most of the graveside service staring at the shiny shoes of the young men who were the honor guard. All I could focus on was the fact that one of the young men’s shoes was scuffed.

This is what seemed to have been on my mind in the beginning of our church service today. It brought back the emotion of having just lost my father. Seeing him in his casket wearing his First Calvary hat that he was so proud of. He always spoke so proudly of the time he spent in the military. So by the time that video about people who served in the Armed Forces was over, I was a mess.

I miss my dad. I really miss him. It surprises me how much I miss a dad that was really only in 7 years.

I was prepared for a miserable Father’s Day, with both my Father in Law, my dad having passed, and with my being estranged from my mom and step dad. So I was prepared to be a little sad that day. But today? Not so much. I am not a mourner. I get sad and then move on. But today I mourned. And hopeful I will again enjoy the Fourth of July.

Geeky Links 7/2

I can’t believe that it is already July!!! I hope you all have some good, geeky and explosive plans for the 4th!!!!
I love this “My Little Serenity” video! I will never look at my daughters’ Little Ponies the same;).

BuzzFeed has a great list of 25 comic book characters that we all love but don’t know their full names. Well, you all do now! (Just for the record I knew Stuffy’s full name;)

Did you know that there is a shrimp with natural 3D lenses? I didn’t but over at New Scientist they say that it is inspiring a new material. So cool!

Zucchini Egg Casserole

Did you know that June is National Dairy Month? Well, here is a little something to celebrate it!

The weather in Fresno has had the weirdest break in the weather! All of a sudden is has gotten cool. While the forecast has made it clear that this break is extremely limited (we will be going to over 100 this weekend) there is no reason to not take advantage of the break! So I made a little lunch picnic for the Nerdlings! And one of their favorite things is any kind of egg casserole. So I put together a super simple recipe that got to use our first zucchini out of our garden!!!

This was a big learning experience for us because I let the 10 year old do everything except slice the turkey bacon! By the way, the magic of turkey bacon is that it comes cooked and since it won’t crisp up you don’t need to cook it before adding it to the casserole!

All my ingredients (yes, all)!

Ingredients:
8 eggs
3/4 cup flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
3/4 cup grated zucchini, (wrung out after 1 minute of microwaving or after being frozen or if warm off the vine)
1/2 cup thin sliced turkey bacon
2 cups cottage cheese
2 cups shredded cheese

Action Shot: The NerdBug Shredding Away

Process:
Whisk the eggs, flour, salt, pepper, and baking soda. Then mix in everything else. Dump it into a 9×13 baking pan. Then bake at 400 degrees for 30 minutes. Cut into squares and serve with fruit and crackers for a great lunch or brunch! Great served hot or room temperature. Serves 6.

(This project has been compensated as part of the June Dairy program for Safeway for the #SafewayDairy series. While they provided the subject all opinions, recipes and ideas were mine!)
