Hurling Toward Christmas: A Giveaway

Ok, am I the only person who is blown away by the fact it is almost Halloween and Thanksgiving is just a few weeks away? And it is less than 2 months until Christmas? I already feel so behind!!!

There are 2 things that always get pushed to the end of the do list. Oh heck, I need to be honest, the 2 things that often tend to fall off my to do list because I don’t have time to get around to them. The 2 things are Christmas cards and thoughtful Grandparent gifts!

Shutterfly can have you back on both accounts! They have super cute holiday cards that you can just order now! Then just address them through November and send them out the day after Thanksgiving. Then you totally look like a rock star!

Then you can use Shutterfly’s photo books as the perfect Grandparent gift! I mean, what grandparent doesn’t want pictures of their grandkids? Just lay in all the super cute pictures you have taken through the year and order. How easy can that be?

Well, it could get a little easier! How would you like to win 25 cards? Shutterfly is helping me to give away 2 sets to 2 of my lucky readers!

Halloween Vent

Halloween is coming and the idea of it is overwhelming me!!!

I am not a big fan of just buying costumes but everything else takes so much time!!! We could do a Star Wars theme because we have a few outfits in the dress up bin but there are a lot of other options.

A couple of months ago the kids were talking about doing a Marvel theme set. Specifically there was a lot of talk about Nerdster being Electro with some pipe cleaners coming off for electricity.

Then there is also the option of doing the Roman/Greek thing that we are studying in history. The boys could make armor and the girls could make some great clothing.

Or we could do a solar system type thing. All in black and then building out different planets.

Ugh! Not only are there a lot of choices but many of those choices are a lot of work too!

What are you doing for Halloween? Do you even care to know yet;)? It is over a month away! But if you are making something, that isn’t enough time!!!

Frugal Homeschooler: St. Patrick’s Day

Saint Patrick in Stained GlassHere in the NerdFamily we love St. Patrick’s Day! We love the food, the fun and the learning!  And we love that there is so much out there for free to enjoy!

This year we are going to do our first lapbook! And in typical Frugal Homeschooler fashion we are using a free lapbook template from Homeschool Helper Online. It even has a library list for you!

There are a lot of sources for history on St. Patrick. Of course there is Wikipedia and that is a pretty good piece. There is also a lot of information over on the History Channel site. Or you can just go to the source! CCEL has St. Patrick’s actual confession. It really is an easy read and quite interesting. It helps to separate some of the truth from the myth.

Then it is time for fun and learning! Easy Fun School has a unit study on St. Patrick that is aimed at all ages and even has music. The Activity Village has a ton of fun. They have games, puzzles, stationary, crafts, etc.

So what are your plans for your learning and St. Patrick’s Day? Let me know if you do any of these fun activities. And remember that learning doesn’t have to be expensive.

My Family Christmas Book and Memories Review

I love Christmas but not really the commercial side. I feel we need to focus more on Christ and also on family traditions. So I was thrilled to receive a copy of My Family Christmas Book and Memories to review!

This is the ultimate Christmas book to have on hand. It is a 3 ring binder and has convenient tabs for easy access. The sections include Advent, Christmas Reading & Prayers, Kids Craft Ideas and more. They give you the years that carols were written and all the words we can’t always remember;). There are places to help you plan out your Christmas and write in the details of what happened for prosperity!

I love this book because it helps to focus on what is really important about Christmas! Christ! I think this will end up being the book we pull out and read from every year as a family.

(This post was written for Family Review Network & My Family Christmas Book who provided the complimentary product for review in exchange for my honest review)
