We tried to curl the NerdPie’s hair recently. I got her hair up and that went fine. The problem arose a few hours after she went to bed. Apparently they were keeping her up so we had to take them out. I didn’t have the heart to tell her that beauty is pain;). Maybe we will try again when she is older.
Ruby orbs of juicy goodness. Yes, I am talking about pomegranate seeds. At Trader Joe’s they charge about $3.99 for pomegranate seeds. They look like they are about 1 pomegranate’s worth, maybe less than 1. Now on the other side. Here are 3 pomegranates that I bought for 50 cents a pound at a farmer’s market. But then there is the business of seeding them. It is super easy if you just plan ahead a little.
The first thing I do is cut them in half. Then I submerge them in a bowl of cold water. Let them sit for a while and the membranes start to absorb the water. That enables the pomegranate to release the seeds a little bit. After they sit just break out the seeds but do it under the water. Tossing out as much of the peel and membrane as you can.
Then run fresh water after you skim off as much of the membrane as possible. Then agitate the seeds in the water and leave them alone for a bit. The yucky bits (including dud seeds) will rise to the top. Then I dump them onto paper towel and then in a bowl. I tend to stick them in the fridge and just pick up some for a snack or throw them in salads. The other fun thing to do is stick them in the freezer. Then I drop them into all kinds of drinks from mixed drinks to lemonades.
Outside my window I see my neighbor’s citrus tree’s (maybe grapefruit) fruit over my fence. Maybe it will ripen soon;). I am thinking of how to organize my week and enjoy it at the same time! I am thankful for my husband and my children for the joy they bring to my life. From the learning rooms we are doing our Kinderbach this morning and hopefully a fun history project this week! From the kitchen I have beer bread in the oven and will make chocolate chip cookies in a little bit! I am wearing sweats and a short sleeve shirt (yes I’m grungy and frumpy today, even for me) I am creating my holiday gift and to do lists this week. I am going no where today!!! I am hearing The Cheftians and I am so pulling out the Christmas music this week. Around the house I need to clean up so I can have some of my friends over this Friday! A few plans for the rest of the week: Craft night over here Friday and the tea on Saturday!
I had cooked chicken and was craving some sort of comfort food so I was rummaging around my pantry and the internet for a yummy recipe. So I found a recipe over on the Bisquick site and then I started to modify. It came out pretty good!
Ingredients:
2 cups chopped cooked chicken
1/2 package of taco seasoning
10 oz frozen spinach, thawed and wrung out
1 1/2 cups shredded cheese (I used 3 cheese blend)
1 cup Bisquick
1 cup corn meal
1 1/2 cup milk
2 eggs
Process:
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Mix the Bisquick, corn meal, taco seasonings and eggs together. Then add milk and mix until smooth. Put chicken in the bottom of a 9×13. Then top with spinach and cheese. Then top with mixture. You can top it with salsa and guacamole. It is supper easy and yummy!
Found this over at a friend’s blog (Living Vessel) and thought it was great! Of course I love the original song too so that helps;). I think this is something that the worship group and choir at my church could do really well! (Patmo, Alan I am talking to you 2;)
He goes onto to say that he won’t kill it before its time but he doesn’t want it to jump the shark. AB think that he isn’t popular with the kids and man is he wrong! Not only do NerdDad and I both love the show (and just about every nerdy adult I know) but my kids love him!!! I hope he is just hedging because my heart might be broken if he were to leave. I already am edgy that there isn’t more AB on Food Network as it is!
Scripps Research Institute has come out with a study that looks at the addictive nature of junk food. Apparently these rats were so addicted that they were willing to take a shock in order to get the beloved junk food. They are trying to prove that the junk food is just as bad as drugs.
As a fat girl I don’t know what all to think. On one hand I can totally agree because I don’t know why my logic doesn’t control my intake better. But on the other hand I can’t say that I really cut a lot of slack for addicts so why should I be able to use it as an excuse because if you have a problem you should get help. The one thing that I get out of it that makes me feel better is that changing food choices is hard. Not due to my weak will but it really is hard.
So what do you think? Is the fact it may be addictive give us an excuse? Should junk food be illegal like the drugs? What?
I made 4 loaves of banana bread today as my Tackle It Tuesday!!!!! I used a recipe that I found over at Tammy’s Recipe that has wheat flour in it. The bread is moist and freezes beautifully!
Years ago I had purchased a cheap package of birthday cards from Currents. Then I got into rubber stamping (a little). So I planned that when all those cards were used up I wouldn’t buy any more but make them. Well, I finally ran out of birthday cards but hadn’t gotten around to making any. I was buying them 1 at a time until I could get around it.
So here they are! They aren’t anything fancy but they are handmade. The flower and leaves are 1 stamp and the butterfly is another. I stamped them in brown on an ivory piece and then colored them in. Then I just stamped Happy Birthday inside!
I do have to say that I finally believe that these stamps can start being cost efficient!
