They are also having a ton of other sales right now including a new lotion for $1. But what makes now the time to buy is that you can get 10% back from Shop at Home right now!

NerdPie’s Painting Tackled!

Delightful eh? A wonderfully bland form of off white builders paint isn’t it? For NerdPie’s 8th birthday we gave her a bedding set (that will appear in future posts) and allowed her to pick out some paint. After a lot of primer, a bout of stomach flu for NerdDad and a week of VBS we are finally finished!!!

It is very pink! But she is delighted and that is what really counts. Though when I am actually done decorating her room I think the pink won’t be quite so overwhelming!

Scotch Brite Giveaway

I was so stoked to get a box from Scotch-Brite recently in the mail full of their Bathroom Solution Products! The kids and I all looked through it with baited breath! Is it sad that we were so excited about cleaning products;)? With 4 kids there is always so much cleaning to be done. And nothing makes cleaning better than having the right tools!

I have learned to delegate some of my cleaning but as you can see. Sometimes it doesn’t always turn out the way I want. My son had the chore of wiping down the bathroom sink with a cleaning wipe. He decided to go above and beyond by wiping down the mirror. He didn’t wonder why I have never asked him to do that;). As you can see, there were quite a few streaks.

So I grabbed my new Streak Free Mirror Cloth and a little window cleaner to rid myself of all those streaks in just a moment. I even noticed that I didn’t have to as much window cleaner as usual but the results were better!

So how would you like a box like mine filled with awesome Scotch-Brite Bathroom Solutions?

Mandatory Entry: Just tell me what your biggest bathroom cleaning challenge is!

The Broken Slipper: a Tale of Repair

Cinderella's broken slipper

So the NerdPie’s dress up shoes came apart. She just got them handed down to her from her sister and was so excited!!! But within 1 week one of the shoes came apart. She was so pathetic as she brought it to me in 2 pieces. I had to convince her that she couldn’t just walk around in 1;).

The Inner Workings

Upon examination I saw that the structure was a peg and hole construction. With the right glue this would fix right up!

Everything We Need!

So after a trip to Walmart I was ready to go! I got the gel super glue because it is a little easier to control and comes out a touch slower. Less likely to glue your fingers together that way!

Reassembly

So I just squeezed a little glue into each hole. Then I waited about 10 seconds for the glue to set just a bit before hooking the 2 pieces together. If you let the glue get a little tacky it is less like to squeeze all out as soon as you apply pressure (throw back to my bridge building days;).

After the gluing you need to apply pressure and allow it to set for 12-24 hours. Who needs clamps or grips when you have rubber bands? They are free so I am a happy camper;). I just set it all aside to cure. and then…..

Princess got her shoes back!

It is that easy!

Inspiration For All

Look what I found at my Dollar Tree store this morning!!! I always go down the basket aisle at the Dollar Tree because they can be hit and miss. But can you believe that these were only $1???

The kids loved the bright colors and all said that they wanted some. So I told them that we couldn’t get them if we didn’t know what would be in them. So they listed something like 10 things that could be store in them. Everything from small stuffed animals to little people figurines and that isn’t counting any of my ideas. So I figured that buying these 4 would be a great investment. Once they are deployed, I am sure that I will be going back to get some more!

DeWaxing Candle Holders

Here is the situation: You have tea lights or votive candles that you drop into adorable little candle holders. And those adorable candle holders can be what you use for parties, therefore you are using bunches. So the party, dinner or just burning is over. You then have this little stump of candle melted along the side of your holder. How much fun is that to dig out? As someone who has done it, let me tell you that it is not fun to do with 1 candle holder much less bunches of holders.

One solution that I use is to freeze your candle holders upside down. Now this is not an original to me idea. I may have heard it from Martha Stewart or Katie Brown or some home diva. But it works!!! Then I throw glass holders into the dishwasher to get rid of any remain residue. Easy peasy!!!

I love candles and now I will actually burn them;).

Target & Passover

Lookie at what I found at Target!!! I found these great Passover plates for only $4.99 each!!! Now they are melamine but all my kids are under 10 so I think that is totally fine;). For you who aren’t familiar with Passover, the round plate is kind of the center piece. The square plate is the matzah plate!

Not bad at all for $10!

The Stories of the Mugs

I have never considered myself a mug collector. At least I don’t try to be. I have standard white mugs that we use when I have girls over for coffee but you know how life is. You pick mugs up. When I saw Mom Spark’s post on the origin of her mugs it made me reflect on mine.

This is my oldest mug. I got it for my 14th birthday. 1 of my dear childhood friends and locker mate, Susan McNeil, had left it in our locker with a birthday card. It totally threw me off from the fact that she and a few other friends were throwing me a party at lunch. That was my last surprise party until last year;).

Fresno State Mug
This was the mug that my husband got as a graduation present from SWE (Society of Women Engineers) which he was a member of that year. Now that may have had something to do with the fact that it was a)the year we dated and b) my friend Kathy (who was President) said it was a prereq to dating me. He was given that at the pizza party where we honored the graduates and ushered in the new officers. I went from Treasurer to President;). By the way, Kathy also maintains that it was belonging to SWE that got him Dean’s Medal of Engineering;).

Our New Parent Mugs!
These are the mugs NerdDad and I got when we had our first child. NerdDad got his from his brother Mike. It was the mug Mike got with his first child! Mine was part of a mommy gift from my friend Carrie. It came with tea and chocolate and other girlie stuff!

These were a 25th birthday gift from my friend Santine. I got them at a birthday dinner with a bunch of girlfriends in San Jose. I always think of them all when I use these!

These are from my belated father in law’s insurance agency. He opened it and got these around the time we were in San Jose. I can’t see us ever using these or getting rid of them.

Ahh, the Pelco mugs! NerdDad got 1 when he started working there. He then got the big blue one for his 1 year anniversary. I then took it over. I mean, look at how big it is! And NerdDad doesn’t even drink coffee or tea!

I got this mug at the first New Covenant Women’s Retreat I attended. I was pregnant with NerdPie and Donna Partow spoke!

Last but not least! I am not a big one on play dishes. So I got these super cute plastic cups for my kids! They are the perfect size for cups of cocoa or tea for little hands. But, there weren’t any boy ones. So I just give the boys the ones with frogs on them;).

So that is my mug collection. Do you have any special mugs? Or any dishes for that matter?

Many Kids, Crumby Floors

I have a passel of kids…which means I have issues with food on the floor. Who doesn’t? One of the best tools NerdDad and I have found is an old school carpet sweeper, yes you heard me right. A carpet sweeper. One of the reasons that we love it is that the kids can use it all by themselves and they love it. It has no batteries or cords to cause issue. It is a simple push operated device. And it works! When I say that is works I mean it picks up dirt, hair, cheerios and just about any little annoying crumb that falls! For less than $20 you can’t go wrong. It beats all the pretend dust busters that people give kids and then the kids actually help!!!
