The Little House In the Minecraft Prairie

little house in mine woods

Today we are going to talk about the prairie’s of Minecraft. They are a lot like prairie’s in really life with not much to them other than grass and weeds. I like the prairies for  building a home in but they are pretty much useless when it comes to resources. There are sometimes pools there which help out but if you can at all I suggest you live on the edge of this biome until you get pretty far in the game.

I think that the best place to spawn is in an area on the edges of the forest and prairie biome. Because you can get most of your basic resources from the forest but one of the safest places to live is the prairie. Because there is no shade. There is nowhere for monsters to hide. There might be a lot of creepers around but not really any that hang out at night because they all will burn up. Also you might get a lot of resources for that because when a monster dies then it will drop its items on the ground which can be really helpful.

When you are making a house on the prairie you need to be mostly concerned with the location. If you want to have home that you won’t be leaving for days at a time you need to make a good decision when you place your house. I suggest finding somewhere with an open area and near a forest. I try to be near a pool but that is not so much of a priority. I think that you should try to have a nice area around you if you wanted to get animals that would be helpful.

I hope that this post helps you know what to do if you spawn in the Prairie. Please tell me if there is any biomes you would like to know about.

For All My Fathers

Dad heartI have had 4 dads in my life and love them all even though not one of them is really in my life now. I am grateful to all of you and you all had a part of forming me as I am now, warts and all.

My bio dad who stepped into my life as an adult. He owned his abandonment of me and was willing to put in the time to try and build something with me. I didn’t get long enough with him and I still mourn his death.

My “middle” father;). He is the first man I remember calling “Daddy”. He made me feel adored and adorable as a little girl. Then he was removed from my life due to choices neither of us made. We reconnected some when I was an adult. I am grateful for the years he was my daddy.

The man I have called Dad most of my life. He didn’t choose me and may not if given a choice. But he is the reason I love history, games, went places, and was fed. All those years I thought he was making fun of my music… I now look back and realize just how many music videos and DOVE award shows he watched with me and how he knew all the words to my favorite songs. I am grateful for all you did for me and wish we had a relationship.

My father in law. He is the first man to truly show me unconditional love. When he told me on my wedding day that he loved me because his son chose me, I knew I was seeing a reflection of God the Father and his love. We all miss him so much but sometimes when Jeremy or the kids have a certain twinkle in their eye, it is like he is right there.

Father’s Day is a weird holiday for me. I love celebrating my wonderful husband (who will get his own post;). But I miss all the fathers I have had. Some have past and some just aren’t there anymore. I love them all. They all have a place in my heart.

The Little House In The Minecraft Woods

little house in mine woods

This is a post all about living in the woods biome. I think that this is one of the best biomes to start out in because it has all the basic items that you need on a day to day basis. Because you get the wood you need from the trees. You get food from apples that fall from leaf blocks. And you could make a home in the ground or a little plank home on the ground.

I think that the best place to make your home is near a water source. Then when you are ready to farm you can just make a farm next to the water instead of going and finding water and maybe getting lost on the way.

I like to make a small house above ground to help me find it. But I put a majority of my rooms on a staircase that is going down from my main room. I try to make as many rooms of my central staircase as possible because you can get a lot of cobblestone and precious material just from mining out all the rooms on a stair case.

I suggest that you try to find out what kind of forest you are in when you first spawn. Because if you are in a roofed forest where nearly every thing is covered by trees you better make a sword because that means that a lot of monsters might spawn and not burn up because there is enough shade. Or if you are in the jungle you should start looking for cacao seeds which are a very good resource.

I hope that this is helpful and informative and you want to be making your little house in the Minecraft woods.

Minecraft Farm Animals

Farm animals

This post is all about Farm animals. I think that all of the animals are important and helpful to have around. But this is all about the most helpful animals that you should have if all possible. I suggest if you can, you find at least one of these animals.

I think that the best animal to have around is the cow. It has four different uses that make it super helpful to have around

  • You can use a cow for milk and and the milk is helpful. Because you can use it to heal you from potions and raw meat. And you can use the milk to make cakes.
  • You can use it’s leather to make books and a set of dyeable armor.
  • You can use it’s meat for eating and and you could eat it raw and follow it with a bucket of milk.
  • When you breed an animal with another and it makes a baby you will get quite a bit of experience.

I think that the second best animal is the sheep. This only has three different uses so it is not as useful as the cow but you can dye it different colors.

  • You can shear a sheep by clicking it with shears and you will get 1 to 3 pieces of wool. And you can make a bed and carpets and pictures with it.
  • You also can eat it  eat it’s meat.
  • you can also get xp from breeding sheep.

The 3rd best animal is the chicken. It only has 2 unique items that aren’t meat or xp.

  • The chicken will drop feathers when it dies. You can make arrows with them.
  • A chicken will drop an egg every minecraft day or so. Then you can make cakes or pumpkin pies

I hope that you learned the different kinds of animals that you want to have around your house.

The Minecraft School of Architecture: Class one

Minecraft Architecture

This is a new mini series on buildings on Minecraft. There are lots of different styles. Like NerdoDark likes to just make whatever fits his needs. While I like to make buildings that are styled just so and fit my needs to the style. I like to make everything symmetrical and perfectly aligned and NerdoDark makes buildings to suit the purpose of whatever fits and what ever works.

To start a building my way, first you need to have some idea of what it should look like. If you want it to have windows or a back door, If you want it to be able to mine from it or not or if there will be a possibility for you to keep going up and making more floors. Like my latest project is a big hotel but I am not putting a fancy roof on it because then I am going to keep making it go higher and higher so that it touches the sky.

When NerdoDark makes a building it always has a purpose unless it is a thing from a show or game. Like NerdoDark won’t build a bunch of different houses all at once. He will make one house and use it as much as possible then make another one. He doesn’t care about dimensions  of the space unless it is too small to do what he wants which is cool. Unless you’re me and you want to find a way through all his stuff. But he also makes things that have no use at all but the sure are cool. Like he has made the great Deku tree and a ghost house from Mario.

I hope that this post helps you figure out what kind of houses you like to build.

A Look at Alice Through the Looking Glass

The Nerdpie and I were so excited to get a chance to check out the preview of Alice Through the Looking Glass this week! So come take a quick look at what we thoguht!

image024

I came into Alice Through the Looking Glass having seen the first installment, Alice in Wonderland. I enjoyed the first movie quite a bit. The Tim Burton look was really fascinating and I found the story a bit more compelling than usual adaptions. Based on what I knew of Alice Through the Looking Glass, I walked in expecting to be wowed visually, through the acting, and the plot.

I brought my 12 year old with me to the preview this week. She came from an entirely different experience. She hadn’t seen the first installment but she had read both books and loved them. Which means she came in with some specific book nerd expectations (that we can all relate too). I asked her before the movie began what her expectations were based on the commercials. She said that she expected more of a theme in the movie than there was in the book. She knew they were introducing Time as a character and she knew that more characters would recognize Alice. Apparently in the book she just wandered around in the second book, fairly unknown.

So how did is measure up?

We both really liked it! My expectations were totally met. The acting was quirky and great. I don’t know that I can watch anyone else as the Red Queen or the Mad Hatter. Even Tweedles are just perfect in this roles;). The look of the entire movie was also exquisite. The colors, costumes and background match the unique and vibrant story.

I also really loved the plot. It takes us to a world where Alice is older but still a relatively young adult. She is dealing with family, disappointment, the future, and time at the toll it takes on her life. And then she goes to Wonderland.

So what did Nerdpie think? Here is her 2 cents!

IMG_20160524_210601104

I went to see Through the Looking Glass thinking that it would be like the book but it really wasn’t. I think that the only thing that they really kept was the name and the fact that Alice went through a looking glass. I really loved it but it’s not what I expected at all. I think that I would have better understood the begining if I had seen the first movie but I still got most of the content. I loved that they talked more about Alice’s life! In the book all you know about her is that she sat down after tea-time and she is a girl named Alice. But in the movies they talk more about her and who she is, which I really loved.I loved that the most because it had a plot where in the book it is just getting her home and there is nothing else on the plot line. The movie is all inter connected and that is the kind of movie I love!

(Disclosure: We received an opportunity to view the movie for free in order to give our honest thoughts. All thoughts and opinions are ours alone!)
