So I am uber boring but I want to break out;). So I saw this super cute flower for only $1 at Claire’s and I figured if I never got up the guts to wear it I could always give it to NerdPie. But I wore it today! My girlie side has been jumping out all over lately;). I haven’t worn a flower in my hair since 4th grade and they were on my bobby pins. So what do you think? Too much?
I saw this picture of Danielle Jost’s work over on her husband’s Facebook and loved it! Since she doesn’t have a blog, I got permission to share all this fun with you guys! I am inspired, how about you?
The text of this young lady’s speech has been floating around for a couple of week’s but I just saw the tape today. I remember when I came out of high school, that was the moment when I knew that there had to be a better way. I had wasted 4 years and there I was watching my siblings starting the journey down the hole.
One of the things that makes it so delightful to see a valedictorian come out against the current school system is that no one can claim that its because she was a failure;). This is similar to when John Gatto came out against public school on the heels of being name the best teacher.
Would a schoolroom be nice to have? Yes. Do we have space? Yes. Do we have an official schoolroom? No.
Now my best friend has a super cute schoolroom. She has her desk for her craft projects and a table for the kids. She has shelves with all their stuff and even has toys in there. I love the idea of it but it just never seems to work out here. I think we just don’t lean towards isolating while we work. I mean I have an office yet I am typing this in my great room while one kid works at the kitchen table and the rest of them watch Cyberchase;).
So instead of a schoolroom we have school areas. We have a nook with the kids’ computer and book shelves, a bookshelf that holds all their school books and special papers in the office, and a craft cart that has all their crafting supplies. We tend to do the reading on the couch or in bed;). Then the actual book work happens at the kitchen table. So we don’t contain ourselves to just a room;).
That is the joy of homeschooling! You can do what ever works for you and yours! Will we ever have a school room? Probably when the kids can handle working more independently but not quite yet.
Where do you do school? Do you have an official school room? Let me know!
It is menu planning time! Things are cooling a bit around here so I think I might do a little baking this week. I think I will back some butterhorns, some cookies and maybe some pear bread. But back to business… Here is what we are eating!
Monday: Mac and Cheese for the kids while NerdDad and I got to the TasteFresno tweetup at Eureka!
Tuesday: BBQ’ed Pork Ribs, Broccoli, Corn
Wednesday: Eggs, Bacon, Pancakes
Thursday: Chicken Kiev, Buttery Rolls, Broccoli
Friday: Gnocchi with Chicken and Spinach in a Butter Garlic Sauce
****I have since found out the location of the proposed center/mosque is 2 blocks away in the old Burlington Coat Factory. And they purchased the building.
Oh, there is so much to say… The question is, should it be allowed that a mosque be built where the Twin Towers used to stand? Well, first I want to know what basis does this group get access to the Twin Towers land? Isn’t it privately owned or at least the city? Is it simply that this group petitioned Bloomberg?
The statement I hear about why a mosque there, is that they are trying to mend Muslim/West relations. I think the backlash has put to rest any illusions that a Mosque will not mend relations. But who buys that line any way? Are you telling me that is wouldn’t be a dream realized for Muslim extremists the world around to blow up our buildings (or anyone’s frankly) in order for a mosque to be built there. Talk about new motivation for terrorism. On just that fact alone and nothing else I say no! What message does that send? Don’t like something and want your stuff there? Then blow it up. Regardless of this group’s affiliation with terrorists or not. A mosque would be a pay off for such horrible acts.
Yes, I know it is August! But when you have 4 kids and you theme the costumes, that can take a little work. And work takes time;). Last year we did a half homemade, half bought Wizard of Oz theme. So I knew I would have to start thinking about it soon!
I got the opportunity to pick out a costume at Costume Discounters for this year and I was overwhelmed by all the choices. They have just about any theme for adults or kids. I didn’t realize that I would have that many choices so I realized that I had to consult the Nerdlings.
As a group we decided that we are going to do Star Wars but not just Star Wars, Star Wars Clone Wars. Well, they have 124 costumes/accessories for Star Wars. NerdPie has always wanted to be Asoka so I found this adorable costume.
I was excited to receive my package from Costume Discounters but not nearly as excited as my daughter! We are so glad that delivery was so quick because I don’t think NerdPie could have waited very much longer. It is an adorable outfit with a belt and even a super cute headpiece (sorry you can’t see it in the pic but…). The light saber is ours but what kid who wants to dress up as a Star Wars character doesn’t have a light saber? The only other thing we have to provide are shoes but you can’t see them when you are wearing the costume!
We loved our experience with Costume Discounters was delightful and we recommend them!
Brilliant, just brilliant! I am not brand loyal when it comes to shoes and sports stuff but I think I might become. Nike came out with an awesome real woman campaign that I just love. A real and healthy woman isn’t necessarily stick thin. She will have muscle and curves, if she does it right!
I believe in the power of the dollar. We complain that advertisers make women have a poor self image b showing us women that are either all fake or all bones. I want to affirm Nike and motivate other to take the same steps! So if you decide what brands to buy on more than money, think about rewarding Nike for standing up for a healthy woman not a stick girl!
The ruling is in on Prop 8! It has been overturned. It has been ruled unconstitutional. I have just read the conclusion page so far on the ruling and basically tradition can not be the basis for legislation. You can check out the whole ruling but it is 138 pages so you can use the Table of Contents to find the bits you want;). You can go to the bottom of the page and pick where you want to go. I have a feeling that we are going to see another piece of legislation soon, either legalizing gay marriage or banning it.
What do you think? Not just morally but legally? How do think this will effect California and the nation?
The mommy fail isn’t just that the car is dirty;). My 3 year old is wearing 2 shoes for the same shoe;). We have 2 pairs of old sandals that are only 1/2 size apart. I didn’t realize that she wasn’t wearing a matching pair of shoes until we arrived at the birthday party we were going to. Smooth!
